Tech Companies Call for Greater Preparedness Against AI-Powered Cyberattacks

“As artificial intelligence advances rapidly, strengthening cyber defenses has become an immediate priority to counter increasingly sophisticated attacks.”

Artificial intelligence companies OpenAI and Anthropic PBC, along with more than 100 technology and financial organizations, have called on companies and governments to step up their efforts to prepare for and defend against cyberattacks powered by artificial intelligence.

In an open letter issued last Thursday, the two emerging AI companies, alongside major technology firms including Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, and Microsoft, urged governments, businesses, technology companies, and AI organizations to make cybersecurity an “immediate priority for leadership.”

The letter called for existing vulnerabilities in software and digital systems to be addressed, amid the rapid development of AI capabilities and their potential use in increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.

It also called on cybersecurity companies to strengthen their efforts to counter AI-powered attacks, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among governments, businesses, and technology organizations to address growing digital security risks.
