Qatar’s LNG exports surpass Australia, recording a 2.1% increase in 2025
Qatar strengthens its global presence in the LNG market amid rising Asian demand

Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports recorded notable growth in 2025, rising by 2.1%, or approximately 1.7 million tonnes, to reach a total of 81.07 million tonnes, compared to 79.40 million tonnes in 2024. This increase enabled Qatar to overtake Australia and rank as the world’s second-largest LNG exporter.

According to a report by the Washington-based Energy Research Unit, Qatar’s LNG exports grew by 3% in the final quarter of 2025, reaching 20.06 million tonnes, up from 19.48 million tonnes during the same period in 2024.

Asia Remains the Leading Destination

Asian markets continued to dominate demand for Qatari LNG, with five countries accounting for 65.5% of total exports, equivalent to around 53 million tonnes. These included China, India, Taiwan, South Korea, and Pakistan.

China topped the list of importers, recording a record 19.89 million tonnes, marking a 6% year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, Italy was the only European country among the top ten importers, underscoring the strong Asian focus of Qatar’s LNG exports in 2025.
