Urban Planning Advances Sustainable Development with Strategic Projects and New Residential Plots

Accelerating strategic projects are shaping more sustainable cities and enhancing the quality of life across Qatar.

Qatar's Ministry of Municipality continues to implement a series of strategic initiatives aimed at supporting sustainable urban development and improving quality of life through advanced planning policies, residential land allocation, digital property management, and infrastructure enhancement across the country.

Significant progress has been achieved in several major projects, with the national hydrogeological assessment reaching 96% completion. The project focuses on evaluating groundwater resources and supporting their long-term sustainability. Meanwhile, the National Open Spaces and Recreation Strategy has reached 94% completion, aiming to establish an integrated network of green spaces and recreational facilities.

As part of its environmental sustainability efforts, the Green Belt Development Strategy has achieved 92% completion, while the Planning Standards Guide for Green Roofs has been fully completed. In addition, the Smart Rainwater Monitoring Project has reached 99.8% completion, creating an advanced database to support planning and informed decision-making.

The ministry has also finalized several urban planning guidelines, including the Commercial Activities Classification Guide and the GCC Urban Design Guide, alongside new planning regulations that promote efficient land use and enhance the quality of the urban environment.

Regarding land acquisition for public benefit, the ministry processed more than 2,000 expropriation requests, completed 1,438 valuation cases through specialized committees, and finalized 315 compensation payments to facilitate national development projects.

In land administration and surveying, authorities processed 160 requests to convert land into the national housing system, updated approximately 70% of the government land database, completed more than 732 title deed transactions, produced 593 planning maps, and expanded surveying operations using LiDAR technology.

For infrastructure planning, the ministry allocated 1,148 sites for roads, electricity, water, telecommunications, railway, and urban development projects, while also reviewing and approving thousands of planning applications to support integrated urban growth.

The ministry affirmed that these achievements reflect its commitment to building a smart, sustainable urban planning system, improving land management efficiency, and supporting the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
