QatarEnergy signs MoU for offshore oil and gas exploration off the Syrian coast

A new partnership strengthens QatarEnergy’s international expansion and opens new horizons for energy exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean.

QatarEnergy has signed a memorandum of understanding with TotalEnergies, ConocoPhillips, and the Syrian Petroleum Company to cooperate on offshore oil and gas exploration off the Syrian coast.

QatarEnergy stated that the agreement includes conducting a technical review to assess the potential of Offshore Block 3 located in Syrian territorial waters, while also establishing a framework for further technical and commercial discussions among the participating parties.

The memorandum of understanding was signed at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in the presence of HE Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, along with senior executives from the participating companies.

Al Kaabi stated that the agreement reflects QatarEnergy’s continued strategy for international growth and its efforts to explore new oil and gas business opportunities regionally and globally.

He added that the cooperation with the Syrian Petroleum Company and international partners aims to evaluate opportunities and resources that support growth and prosperity in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Offshore Block 3 is located in the Levant Basin in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of the Syrian city of Latakia, with water depths ranging between 100 and 1,700 meters.
