“Mwani Qatar”: Ruwais Port Strengthens Its Position as a Regional Trade Gateway

Qatar Ports Management Company, Mwani Qatar, highlighted the strategic role of Ruwais Port in supporting trade and strengthening supply chain resilience. The port serves as a regional trade gateway that facilitates the movement of goods and commodities and promotes regional trade, in line with Qatar’s economic diversification plans.

Located in northern Qatar, approximately 120 kilometers from Doha, Ruwais Port serves as the country’s northern maritime gateway and its second key seaport. The port handles general cargo and construction materials, while also providing regional maritime services, integrated storage facilities, and a dedicated market for displaying and selling regional goods.

The Ministry of Transport continues to develop Qatar’s ports sector and enhance its infrastructure, while expanding the logistics sector and optimizing the use of existing ports to support trade flows and strengthen the competitiveness of the national economy.

The ministry launched the first phase of Ruwais Port in January 2015. In December of the same year, wooden vessels and vessels heading to the traditional wooden-boat harbor were transferred from Doha Port to Ruwais Port, further strengthening the port’s role in supporting Qatar’s maritime shipping capabilities.
