Kahramaa Awards Projects Worth Over QAR 2.2 Billion to Expand the Power Grid in Western Qatar
The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) announced the awarding of a new package of projects worth more than QAR 2.2 billion to strengthen and expand the main power grid in the western region, as part of its efforts to enhance grid efficiency, support renewable energy integration, and ensure reliable electricity supplies.
Kahramaa stated that the contracts were awarded to a number of local and international companies, including Voltage Engineering Ltd., the Best & Betas consortium, Larsen & Toubro, and LS Cable, under its strategic plans to connect the Dukhan Solar Power Project to the western electricity network.
The projects include engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works for substations, as well as the installation of cables and overhead transmission lines, supporting the integration of the Dukhan Solar Power Project with the national grid while improving operational efficiency and flexibility.
Kahramaa emphasized that these projects are part of its ongoing efforts to develop electrical infrastructure and ensure the safe and efficient integration of renewable energy sources, while meeting growing electricity demand.
Eng. Abdullah bin Ali Al Thiyab, President of Kahramaa, said that expanding the western power grid will enhance service reliability and quality, helping meet current and future electricity needs. He stressed the corporation's commitment to building a more flexible and efficient network that supports energy security and sustainable development.
The corporation reaffirmed that these projects reflect its commitment to developing advanced electrical infrastructure and improving services for customers in line with the country's rapid growth.
