Qatar Rail Concludes Phase One of Strategic Knowledge Transfer Program to Train Qatari Engineers in the Railway Sector

As part of its commitment to empowering national talent and fostering a knowledge-based economy, Qatar Rail, in collaboration with the FYAP JV alliance, has successfully concluded the first phase of a strategic knowledge transfer program aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies of Qatari engineers in the railway industry.

The initial phase provided a unique hands-on learning opportunity for eight Qatari engineers and two supervisors from Qatar Rail through an intensive 10-day technical training program in Spain. During this period, participants engaged closely with ongoing projects led by FCC Construcción—one of Europe’s top infrastructure companies—and were exposed to best practices in large-scale transport infrastructure.

As part of a three-year agreement between Qatar Rail and FYAP, the program is a cornerstone of the company’s strategy to localize expertise and prepare Qatari engineers for future leadership roles in major national projects through real-world, experience-based learning.

The participating engineers expressed pride in their involvement, describing the experience as enriching and instrumental in broadening their practical and technical horizons. Omar Hamad Al-Kuwari, from the Project Delivery Department at Qatar Rail, said:

“This was an invaluable opportunity to witness firsthand how FCC handles complex railway infrastructure and responds effectively to emergency climate-related challenges.”

Mohammed Sultan Al-Emadi, from the Operations and Maintenance Department, added:

"This visit was a game-changer. It enhanced our understanding of European infrastructure standards and operational excellence, and we are eager to apply these learnings to Qatar’s expanding rail network."

The program also included a two-day technical conference titled “Urban Transport Systems” held from June 16–17 at La Cigale Hotel in Doha. The event brought together over 60 engineers and professionals from Qatar Rail, encouraging knowledge exchange and professional development.

Sheikh Eng. Khalid Ahmed Al Thani, from the Corporate Planning Department, noted:

“The conference was a valuable platform to explore the latest industry trends, foster professional dialogue, and support our organizational growth.”

Engineer Hamad Khalifa Al-Rumaihi emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating:

“This training program supports the long-term development of our engineering staff and promotes a culture of innovation and continuous learning.”

The program reflects a successful public-private partnership model and marks a significant step in supporting Qatar National Vision 2030 by investing in local human capital and establishing a sustainable, diversified economy led by empowered Qatari professionals.
