Qatar Commits to Supporting Indonesia's Plan to Build 5 Million Housing Units
Qatar has pledged to support Indonesia's plan to build 5 million housing units, according to Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Head of the Housing Task Force. Djojohadikusumo stated that the Qatari government will fund the construction of these units, while an unnamed Qatari philanthropist will contribute to building an additional 1 million units. Furthermore, Abu Dhabi has committed to funding another 1 million housing units.
Prabowo Subianto, the retired army general who was elected as Indonesia's 8th President in October 2024, has promised to construct 15 million housing units within the first five years of his presidency.
It is worth noting that trade between Doha and Jakarta has grown by more than 78% over the past five years, reaching approximately QAR 3.22 billion in 2021, compared to QAR 1.8 billion in 2016. Indonesian labor also plays a significant role in enhancing cooperative relations between the two countries.
Qatari investments in Indonesia span various sectors, including telecommunications, banking, and trade. Similarly, several Indonesian companies are investing in Qatar across diverse fields. The GCC countries officially began negotiations with Indonesia on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) last September, with total trade between Indonesia and GCC countries reaching $16 billion in 2022.
