Qatar Free Zones Authority and Aethon International Explore Advanced Manufacturing Hub in Qatar

The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) and Aethon International QFZ have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore cooperation opportunities in advanced manufacturing and industrial innovation, including the potential establishment of a regional manufacturing center within Qatar’s free zones.

The partnership aims to support the development of advanced industrial capabilities and strengthen Qatar’s position as a high-value manufacturing hub, while meeting growing demand in local and regional markets, particularly across the energy and infrastructure sectors.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani, CEO of the Qatar Free Zones Authority, and Gordon Huddleston, Founder of Aethon International, during the special edition of the Qatar Economic Forum held on the sidelines of the 2026 United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.

The agreement paves the way for exploring the establishment of a regional facility for manufacturing high-performance, corrosion-resistant pipes, as well as a potential innovation center within Qatar’s free zones focused on developing new applications for advanced piping solutions across strategic sectors.

H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani said the agreement reflects Qatar’s growing role as a base for advanced manufacturing, highlighting the free zones’ advanced infrastructure, connectivity, and integrated business ecosystem as key enablers of industrial growth and global competitiveness.

The partnership will also explore opportunities to strengthen cooperation with suppliers, industry partners, research institutions, and academic organizations, with a focus on developing local capabilities and nurturing Qatari talent and expertise.

Gordon Huddleston said the partnership provides an opportunity to develop significant advanced manufacturing capabilities, supported by the strategic location of Qatar’s free zones and their access to regional markets, creating new opportunities for innovation, local capacity building, and long-term growth.

The MoU reflects the growing role of Qatar’s free zones in enabling specialized, high-value industrial activities, expanding the country’s industrial base, and strengthening its participation in strategically important manufacturing and innovation sectors.
