The number of building permits issued in June by municipalities in Qatar has increased by 111 percent compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). The total number of permits issued by the municipalities reached 734 in June, compared to 348 in May this year.
The PSA yesterday released the seventy-eighth issue of the Monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion certificates issued by all municipalities in the country.
Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
Al Da’ayen municipality came in second place with 151 permits, i.e. 21 percent, followed by Al Wakrah municipality with 131 permits, i.e.18 percent, then municipality of Al Doha with 127 permits, i.e.17 percent. The rest of the municipalities were Umm Salal 46 permits (6 percent), Al Khor 31 permits (4 percent), Al Sheehaniya 16 permits (2 percent), and finally Al Shammal 13 permits (2 percent).
In terms of the type of permits issued, data indicated that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitute 42 percent (310 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of June 2021, while the percentage of addition permits constituted 55 percent (400 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3 percent (24 permits).
In terms of new residential building permits data, villas’ topped the list, accounting for 75 percent (189 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loan permits by 17 percent (43 permits) and apartments buildings by 6 percent (16 permits).
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential building permits with 47 percent (28 permits), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 24 percent (14 permits), then governmental buildings with 17 percent (10 permits).
In terms of building completion certificates issued during the month of June 2021, according to their geographical distribution, Al Rayyan municipality come at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued was 92 certificates, i.e. (26 percent) of the total issued certificates, while the municipality of Al Wakrah came in second place with 75 certificates, i.e. (22 percent), followed by municipality of Al Da’ayen with 69 certificates (20 percent), then Al Doha municipality with 51 certificates, i.e.(15 percent). The rest of the municipalities were Umm Seal 26 certificates 7 percent, Al Sheehaniya 13 certificates (4 percent), Al Shammal 12 certificates (3 percent), Al Khor 9 certificates 3 percent.
In terms of the type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitute 65 percent (225 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of June 2021, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 35 percent (122 certificates).
In terms of new residential buildings completion certificates data, we find that villas’ top the list, accounting for 62 percent (121 certificates) of all new residential buildings’ completion certificates, followed by dwellings of housing loans certificates by 28 percent (55 certificates), then apartments buildings by 6 percent.
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings completion certificates with 53 percent (16 certificates), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 43 percent (13 certificates), then governmental buildings with 3 percent (1 certificate).
