Kahramaa signs QR63m contract with local factory to supply switchgears
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa)

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has signed a new contract worth QR63m with a Qatari factory to supply switchgears for three years.

The contract was signed by the President of Kahramaa Eng Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Bidda Switchgear Factory Sheikh Suhaim bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.

As per the contract, the factory will meet Kahramaa’s needs for switches after the demand has recently doubled due to the country’s developments and the increasing demand for electricity that accompanies it.

These switches are kept in the supplier’s warehouse and then supplied directly to the contractors within two days following the issuance of an order. It is an extension of a previous contract signed by Kahramaa with the same factory, at the cost of QR3.3m to supply feeding panels, and within the framework of the plans to raise the stock of materials needed to develop the electricity network, support the national product and Qatari economy. Kahramaa is keen to give local companies priority to obtain tenders to enhance their competitiveness.

Al Bidda Factory’s winning of the contract reflects Kahramaa’s continuous support to Qatari factories, motivating others to invest in this field. It encourages them to enter into tenders, especially since national products' preference is according to legislation. Kahramaa provides technical support to local factories to qualify and adopt them in the supplier list, in line with strategies to encourage the private sector.

Kahramaa already signed contracts with several Qatari companies to diversify its sources locally and globally. Kahramaa encourages local investment and diversifying its base after these factories have proven their ability to compete with their counterparts in providing materials.
