The Public Works Authority "Ashghal" has announced the completion of Package 3 of the Road and Infrastructure Development Project in Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa. This comes as part of a broader development plan consisting of four packages aimed at enhancing the road network and public services to serve citizens’ land plots and improve the overall quality of life in the area.
Eng. Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Head of the Northern Areas Section at Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, stated that Package 3 serves approximately 1,383 residential plots. The works include the construction of internal roads, shared pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as comprehensive upgrades to stormwater and groundwater drainage networks.
Project Engineer Eng. Jassim Kano explained that the package involved the construction of 42 kilometers of roads, installation of 1,783 lighting poles, and provision of 7,300 parking spaces. In addition, integrated networks were built, including 33 kilometers for surface and groundwater drainage, 13 kilometers for treated water, 32 kilometers for sewage, 6.5 kilometers for electricity lines, and 19 kilometers for telecommunications lines.
The project also included the construction of 84 kilometers of pedestrian and cycling paths, alongside landscaping works covering 9,250 square meters. Some complementary works, such as final sewage connections and coordination with concerned authorities, are still ongoing.
Ashghal confirmed that 70% of the project materials were sourced locally, relying on Qatari manufacturers and suppliers for lighting poles and fixtures, drainage pipes, electrical cables, and interlock tiles. This approach supports the national industry and contributes to the local economy.
The authority further noted that the project was divided into four zones, implemented in successive phases to minimize disruption for residents and ensure smooth execution with minimal inconvenience during the construction period.
