Qatar Society of Engineers Celebrates "Qatari Engineer’s Day"
The Qatar Society of Engineers celebrated “Qatari Engineer’s Day” with a remarkable event held at the Al Thuraya Dome in Katara Cultural Village. The occasion drew a large attendance of Qatari engineers, both male and female, who participated in this event reflecting the nation’s recognition of engineers and their significant contributions to sustainable development and innovation.
During the event, the late Engineer Hilal Jaham Al Kuwari was honored as "Person of the Year" in acknowledgment of his exceptional contributions to the engineering field. Additionally, the Society announced the 2025 Qatar Society of Engineers Award in the field of “Artificial Intelligence in Construction” and unveiled the Society’s programs and activities for 2025, aimed at fostering collaboration among engineers and enhancing their skills.
Remarks from Leaders In her address at the event, Eng. Amina Al Naama, Chairperson of the Qatar Society of Engineers, expressed pride in the celebration of Qatari Engineer’s Day, highlighting its importance as a source of pride for every engineer in Qatar. She emphasized that dedicating this day reflects the esteemed leadership’s appreciation for the engineering profession and its crucial role in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. Al Naama added that engineers are the driving force behind achievements and the agents of transformation who turn the nation’s aspirations into a bright reality.
She urged engineers to actively contribute to the development of the Society by engaging in innovative and specialized programs. She reiterated the Society’s commitment to serving the community and its members and expressed hope that this year would mark the beginning of a new phase of excellence and creativity.
Soud Al-Dulaimi, Secretary-General of the Society and Board Member, announced plans to implement a series of programs and activities aimed at enhancing engineers’ participation in various engineering initiatives. He noted that the proposed programs rely heavily on engineers themselves to oversee their execution and expand their scope to reach as many institutions across the country as possible. He added that "Qatari Engineer’s Day is an annual opportunity to introduce engineers to new activities and programs."
Upcoming Activities and Projects The Society plans to organize several distinguished events, such as the “Sports Engineering Exhibition and Conference,” the “Engineers Without Borders Program,” and the “Chinese Cars Exhibition.” It also plans to hold the “Culture and Art in Oil and Gas” exhibition. Additionally, the Society will launch the “Engineering Legacy Bus” project and establish a “SCADA Systems Center.” The Society will also continue publishing “The Engineer Magazine” in a new format focused on scientific and engineering research.
Comments from Board Members Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Kuwari, a Board Member, highlighted that this event strengthens communication between different generations of engineers, fostering the exchange of ideas and expertise. He added that the Society aims to launch several specialized engineering forums.
Dr. Abdullah bin Hassan Al Mahshadi, another Board Member, stated that launching Qatari Engineer’s Day for the first time is a significant event that aims to enhance engineers’ roles in society and acknowledge their contributions to Qatar’s development. He emphasized that this day, to be celebrated annually on January 25, underscores the importance of engineers in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
Jassim Hilal Al Kuwari, son of the late Engineer Hilal Jaham Al Kuwari, expressed gratitude for the Society’s recognition of his father, noting that his father oversaw numerous vital projects in Qatar during his career. He described the honor as a touching gesture of loyalty from the Society.
100,000 QAR Engineering Award for AI in Construction The Society announced the launch of a new award titled “Artificial Intelligence in Construction Award,” a yearly initiative aimed at encouraging engineering creativity and promoting technological innovation in the sector. This year, the award focuses on utilizing artificial intelligence to improve construction processes.
The award’s theme revolves around developing a chatbot capable of providing construction standards, answering queries, and offering precise engineering recommendations. The project is open to individuals within Qatar and requires six months to complete, using advanced tools such as Python, ChatGPT, or other AI technologies.
The prize is set at 100,000 QAR, distributed in two installments: 40,000 QAR upon announcing the winner and 60,000 QAR upon project completion.
Engineers Highlight Youth Contributions Young engineers emphasized that celebrating Qatari Engineer’s Day for the first time is an important step towards enhancing the status of Qatari engineers and showcasing the critical role of young engineers in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. They noted that the event provided a platform for interaction across various engineering disciplines, facilitating the exchange of experiences and accelerating the development of the engineering sector in the country.
They also pointed out that the planned programs for this year reflect the Society’s commitment to supporting recent graduates and enhancing their skills.
