The solar energy sector in Qatar comprises 11 companies, which are engaged in the development of sector-specific technologies and innovations. These include utility-scale power generation companies, as well as manufacturers of key components and devices, such as solar cells, panels, racking systems, solar trackers, and power electronics. Additionally, some companies provide services related to solar panel installation, financing solar energy projects, and attracting customers to renewable energy solutions.

According to the website Tracxn, the top 5 companies in the sector operating in the local market are: Qatar Solar Technologies, Sama for Sustainability and Alternative Energy, Siraj Energy, Green Power, and Al Emadi Solar Technology.

It is worth noting that the Al Kharsaah solar power plant is expected to double the country’s renewable energy production by 2030. The plant is located in the Dukhan area, covering more than 10 square kilometers, with a total cost of approximately QAR 1.7 billion. The project includes over 1.8 million solar panels, with a total capacity of about 800 megawatts.

The solar panels are mounted on metal structures equipped with solar tracking technology, which allows them to follow the sun’s movement from east to west, maximizing land utilization and daily energy output. The project incorporates the latest advancements in solar energy technology, such as bifacial panels, advanced automated sun-tracking systems, and the use of robots for continuous cleaning of the solar panels with treated water, aiming to enhance the plant’s efficiency, ensure continuous production, and reduce operating costs.
